Why are they called wisdom teeth?

My youngest daughter needs to have her wisdom teeth out. Why in the world are they called wisdom teeth? They almost always have to come out. They seldom come in straight or uncomplicatedly. If they aren’t removed, they’ll often cause complications later on as it is so hard to floss around or brush them well and cavities are hard to fill.

who said wisdom teeth were wise?

I think it is because they generally come in when our children are coming to a phase of understanding wisdom in their lives. The early 20’s can be a time of growth intellectually and spiritually. It is a time when our children are learning how to walk into the fulness of their own faith. It should be a time of walking into wisdom.

But, her teeth are not showing any signs of giving wisdom. Pain yes, wisdom? Not so much!

    • Oh you are so lucky that you never got yours in! We’ve been able to avoid (or postpone) several children’s wisdom teeth extractions, but this one is a must. I’ll be glad when it is over.

Hope you are well, dear! With the focus on my book these past few months, I too have not gotten around to my sweet friends in the blog-o-sphere. I’m hoping to get back to my regular weekly visits!
