Thankful Thursday – Architecture

I’m visiting family in the southwest and am again struck by the gorgeous architecture here. But I love the style of New England where I grew up and the primitive designs of West Virginia where I used to live. I love the glorious cathedrals and the teeny chapels. I love the gifts and talents God has given to men (whether they follow Him or not, the creative ability is still a part of being made in the image of God).

“See, I have chosen Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, ability and knowledge in all kinds of crafts— to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, to cut and set stones, to work in wood, and to engage in all kinds of craftsmanship. Moreover, I have appointed Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, to help him. Also I have given skill to all the craftsmen to make everything I have commanded you…” Exodus 31:2-6

I love that architecture is a joy to God as well! Here are some images of some of my favorite types of
architecture.

  2. Thank you for that verse! I have often told my boys that “God gave people the wisdom and ability to build” such and such. And now I have scripture to back it! 🙂 Thanks for that!

    • Well, praise God! Don’t you just love it when things like that happen? You try to teach or explain something and then you come across the perfect scripture to show it! You are welcome! ;D

    • I know, right? We so forget how much being made in His image affects who we are and what we do!

  4. Amazing! God is so good. Our house is rather unique – a chalet style but inside it is more ranch style. I will miss it when it sells but I do love the southwest styles like you mentioned as well. Have a fabulous day!

  5. I, too, love it all. I also love that you don’t have to know or honor our God for him to real. It moves me that he is no matter what we humans do.

    • Amen! God is God and we are still made in His image, whether we acknowledge that or not. Thanks for stopping by.

    • Thanks, Sarah. Isn’t it great to see all the various types of architecture and be able to appreciate things in so many of them? I’m not all that familiar with Frank Lloyd Wright’s style, though. I’ll have to check it out.
