My daughter and her husband came to visit us this week-end. Oh it was such a joy-filled time! The week-end was filled with games and laughter and fun foods. I never cease to be delighted in how well our children get along together. They were close friends as children and are great friends as teens and adults. Not that we haven’t had our seasons of fractious relationships. Some children were on the bossy side and others a bit cantankerous during stages of their lives. But our get togethers are always such fun.
We play online games (this week-end it was Family Feud on Facebook), board games (we played Once Upon a Time) and card games (Mao is one of their favorites). We make up stories, we play songs and sing, we take quizzes. There are no end to the ways we find to entertain ourselves. Again, I am so thankful to the Lord for the delightful children He has given to me and for the wonderful times our family has together.
What are some of the special things you do when your family gets together? Favorite games? Favorite foods and past times?
My book, Silver Threads: Weaving Godly Wisdom Into the Lives of Younger Women is available for sale. If you haven’t picked up a copy yet, you can get it from Amazon or Barnes & Noble online in paperback, Kindle or Nook.
It’s Sue here (Sue UK on CHF). It’s lovely to read how your family gets on so well. I’m just wondering how you’ve achieved it!? My children (17, 15, 11, 9, and 2) seem to be at the stage where they rarely get on – particularly the middle 3 (it’s exhausting!). Do you have any tips or a page on here you could direct me to?
Thank you,
Susan
Hi Sue! How wonderful to see you here this morning! I wrote one post awhile back called “5 Ways to Get Your Children to Enjoy Each Other”. I hope it might give a little bit of help. Here’s the link for it: https://teachingwhatisgood.com/?p=789060
Kate,
Thanks so much for the link!
Sue
You are welcome, Sue. I sure hope it helps, at least a little. Blessings, my sweet friend!
Kate…I loved reading about how your family makes the most of their time together. Like you all, we enjoy playing game…ALOT! Right now we are into our Lord of the Rings game and Spades card game. We also enjoy watching movies together and discussing them afterwards. And dinner time is always a given. Thank you so much for hosting and for sharing. Have a great week friend.
Naomi, I’ve not heard of the Lord of the Rings game… that might be fun to look into!! And yep, we love Spades too. Some of the children are more into card games than others. Thanks for coming by, dear! Enjoy your week too!
Thanks for the link-up!
Thanks for joining in, Heather!
One of our favorite family games is Milles Borne!
You know, that’s one game we’ve never played! I always see it and always wonder if it is fun or not. We’ll have to look for it in yard sales. 😀
