Reminders of our life in Christ

REMINDER

Therefore, I will always be ready to remind you of these things, even though you already know them, and have been established in the truth which is present with you. I consider it right, as long as I am in this earthly dwelling, to stir you up by way of reminder, knowing that the laying aside of my earthly dwelling is imminent, as also our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. And I will also be diligent that at any time after my departure you will be able to call these things to mind.  2 Peter 1:12-15

I love this encouragement from Peter. He is setting his heart to be ready to ALWAYS remind us of who we are in Christ. And boy, oh boy, there is a constant pull on our hearts to get sucked back into the mindset of the world, to look at our lives according to who WE USED TO BE and not who we TRULY are!

Today, I just want to share a few bits of encouragement, like Peter, to remind each of us (me right along with you all – if I was from the south I’d say y’all :D). We don’t even have to stray from the this letter of Peter’s.

  • We received a faith as the same kind as that of the apostles.

How many times do we look with awe at Paul or Peter or John. They saw Jesus (even Paul did), most of them walked the earth with Him and saw Him ascend to heaven. We think, “wow, I can’t have a faith like THEIRS.” Peter is telling us right here, YES WE CAN!!! Hallelujah!

  • His divine power has given us everything we need to live a godly life here.

When I think about this, sometimes my breath stops! I already have, by the power of the Mighty God, everything I need — that isn’t just some things or just for some times…but EVERYTHING I need to live my life in His righteousness and godliness. I don’t have to wait or beg – it is already available to me NOW. Can anybody say ‘AMEN!!’

  • By His grace and glory He has granted us His precious and magnificent promises so we may become PARTAKERS in His divine nature.

OK, I’m starting to tingle here…He promises us that we may be partakers (meaning to share in, be partners in) of His very nature, His divine and godly nature. We are no longer of this world. Yes, we still live in this mortal body which will eventually pass away, but our inner person, the REAL me deep inside is a partner with the divine nature of Jesus! And this isn’t just a hope, this isn’t just an “oh boy, I really wish this could be true”…THIS IS A PROMISE, precious and magnificent!! Who all is ready for some worship here!?!

  • If the character qualities of verses 5-7 are ours and we are growing in them, even just a little bit, we will NOT be useless or unfruitful in the true knowledge of Jesus.

How many times do we look at our lives and think that we are worthless? We think, “I don’t have any impact for the Kingdom of God,” “I never see any fruit from my life,” “No one will be drawn to Jesus by my life…I’m just a [fill in the blank].” Well, sister, THINK AGAIN! Peter is telling us that our lives WILL have impact, our lives WILL have an affect, and we WILL see the true knowledge of our Lord be used through our lives! Glory to His Name!

So, this week, let’s go out and remind one another of the glorious reality of who we are in Christ. Let us continue to encourage each other, even if we KNOW the truth. Being reminded is always cause for joy and excitement. I’m thrilled just looking at these verses and writing this out. Let’s be vessels of blessing and stir one another up in our faith and the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ! Amen!!

  1. Thanks for the reminder that the person I so often see in the mirror, is not how the Father sees me; rather He sees me clothed in the robe of righteousness of His Precious Son, my Savior. We will not always ‘see’ the ‘fruit of our labors’…..but we can know that whether we plant, sow, water, or harvest; it is all by God’s power and grace and that no part of that effort is ‘small’.

    • Amen! Cathy, I really believe we need to be reminding one another of this CONSTANTLY! “Therefore from now on we recognize no one according to the flesh; even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him in this way no longer.” 2 Cor 5:16 – this should be our passion, that we help each other to recognize ourselves and one another, NOT according to the flesh, but according to who we are NOW in the Spirit!

      Love you, darling!

  2. I love the fact that once we believe we are called saints and no longer sinners! We are new creatures in Christ. I love reminding others of who they arein Christ also. It is so very important.
