Yesterday in Sunday School class we were discussing the Trinity as part of a systematic theology study and God gave me an insight. Part of what was being discussed was that all persons of the Godhead existed eternally. From that someone mentioned the verse:
Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. Genesis 1:26
And then the viewpoint came up that some erroneously have that God couldn’t be perfect if He was so lonely He had to create man. And the discussion turned to the idea that God was never lonely. He LIVED in fellowship with Himself — He lived in community and that it was the overflow of His love and fellowship that became the creation.
Then it dawned on me for the first time ever.
God, knowing the love and joy of companionship that dwells within the Godhead (Himself), saw that Adam being alone was not a good thing. That the companionship for Adam was ALSO a part of the image of God.
Marriage, community, church, fellowship are all a picture of the community and fellowship within God Himself in the Father, Son and Spirit. Do I understand it all? NOT ON YOUR LIFE!! But it was a really cool “Ah Ha!” moment for me and just another glimpse into the bigness of God.

Fantastic! What a great insight into that particular scripture. Thank you for sharing it!
Thanks, Debi! What are you still doing up?? 😀
I live in Oregon to it wasn’t that late. Hee hee!
I live in Oregon so it wasn’t that late. Hee hee!
I like this very much. Definitely a new insight into fellowship and companionship.
Thanks, Tracie…I love when God shows us new stuff!! 😉 Thanks for stopping by.
I am doing a study called True Woman 101:Divine Design by Mary Kassian and Nancy Leigh DeMoss…it has given me many ah ha moments on things just like the point you make. We were created, as male and female to display His glory! Our uniqueness in our genders, marriage, all point to the relationship of the Godhead with Himself…the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
This study is excellent!!
You’re insight is spot on my friend!!
blessings,
Gay
Thanks Gay! That sounds like a very intriguing study! I’d love to hear more of what you are learning.
Wow, Kate, that is profound. So simple, seems I should have seen it. Thanks for pointing it out.
I KNOW! I kept thinking like scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz, “I should have thought of it for you!” 😀
Love it when He sheds new light on a scripture we’ve read many times before. When I read the book THE SHACK many years ago, I suddenly had a new appreciation for the love and joy that exists between the persons of the Trinity. Somehow in fiction the author captured my heart in new ways with a love for all three of God’s persons- Jesus, Father, and HOly spirit. I’m with you- do I understand it? No, but I can’t wait to experience the fullness of that love someday when I reach Heaven! Thanks for stopping by the Overflow today, too. Nice to meet you.
Hi Alicia! Someone else mentioned The Shack and it’s view of community as well. Thanks for sharing your insight and for visiting!
A wonderful insight, Kate! Thank you for sharing it. He is so kind and compassionate that way.
Amen, Laura, amen!
