Honesty Is Centered In The Heart Of God

I’ve been pondering honesty in the political world, especially since half of Illinois governors since 1970 have gone to jail. It reminded me of a comment by a character in “Daybreakers” by Louis L’Amour.

“Politics ain’t much different, Tyrel, than one of these icebergs you hear tell of. Most of what goes on is beneath the surface. It doesn’t make any difference how good a man is, or how good his ideas are, or even how honest he is unless he can put across a good program, and that’s politics.

“Statesmanship is about ten percent good ideas and motives and ninety percent getting backing for your program.”

This really got me to thinking.

For the believer, the quality of that 90% that goes unseen by others is evidenced in that 10% that shows.

“But the things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and those defile the man.” Mat 15:18

Eventually, whatever is in the heart will be evidenced in the life, that 10%. If the heart is filled with wickedness, evils, corruption, no matter how long you try to hold the proof of that in check or hidden, the time will come when it will pour out. So too, with the believer.

I think this is one of the reasons why scripture tells us to not put a young believer in leadership but to allow them to be tested first. It really is only time that will reveal the hidden qualities of the heart.

So, whether it be the corruption of corrupt politicians or the sacrificial love of a devoted saint of God, truth will eventually come to light from the depths of our hearts. One more reason for ME to make sure that those depths are filled up to overflowing with the love and mind of Christ!

  1. What a nice post today. Campaign season is definitely not about honesty and truthfulness. It’s sad. What’s sadder is that so many look past it as merely “politics” and have become desensitized to it. Thanks for a very uplifiting reminder of the importance of honesty and Godliness. Hugs.
