I’m feeling spring today!
Saturday and Sunday were glorious days here in IL. We had temps in the mid-40s, lots of sun, no wind — I was feeling spring fever! If I hadn’t looked at the calendar to see early February, I would have thought it was time to start Spring Cleaning. And looking at my house, it really needs it!
Growing up we did Spring Cleaning and Fall Cleaning. It was a huge deal and took a whole week. We had old windows with pulleys. Each spring and fall we removed the windows from the frame (being sure to tie the pulley rope that held the window in place so it wouldn’t disappear inside the walls), washed them inside and out, removed the storm windows, washed them inside and out, and removed the screens and washed them down with a brush and hose. It was a long and tedious process.
Walls and molding were scrubbed, ceilings were vacuumed, floors stripped of old wax, washed and re-waxed. Kitchen cabinets were emptied, swept out and washed (inside and out). And, my mother’s favorite thing, old things were tossed! My mother loved to declutter. Sometimes she went too far and threw out my dad’s pay packets, but we never had lots of stuff around the house that was unnecessary.
Growing up in New England, whenever the temps began to warm up, it meant spring – and spring cleaning. But here on the prairie, it could just mean a winter thaw. Feeling spring and being spring are 2 different things! So, with temps dropping down to the single digits in the week to come, I don’t think it’s QUITE time to throw open the windows and start the cleaning. Even though I’ve got the bug.
So I will toss that energy into meal prep instead.
Now that I am well into my 4th month on THM (Trim Healthy Mama), I have found myself growing totally bored with my meals. During last month’s challenge I ate very basic meals. I was never hungry but I seldom really REALLY enjoyed my food. I miss pizza (one of my absolutely favorite meals).
Spring menu upgrades.
As I’m feeling spring, I am planning on upgrading my list of meals. I want to begin to incorporate more variety into my THM meals – and hopefully find many my family will eat as well. It’s always so tiresome planning and cooking 2 meals for every supper. This will take some time, but I’m hoping by the end of February to have tried 4 new main dishes and 4 new side dishes. But most importantly, I am seeking for a GREAT pizza crust! So if any of you have a recipe for an on-plan THM pizza crust that you positively adore, please send it my way. We are having pizza on Friday and I’d love to try YOURS!
Please feel free to download my FREE, fully editable, Month at a Glance menu planner, my Weekly Menu Planner and my new Snacks planner.
What’s YOUR menu for the week?
Good luck with your new meals! I really like your planning sheet; thanks for sharing.
Thanks Laura! Glad it’s helpful for you.
Pizza is my favorite too. Does it matter if its S or E? I have a really good sprouted flour one that we use every Friday, and it’s an E. Also there is Gwens nest cold fermented sourdough pizza that is delicious and budget friendly!
Hi Katharine. It would need to be S since I’ll be using cheese and pepperoni.
