Day 5 of Giving Thanks

They sang, praising and giving thanks to the LORD, saying, “For He is good, for His lovingkindness is upon Israel forever.” And all the people shouted with a great shout when they praised the LORD because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid. Ez 3:11

I’ve recently read Ezra and just love the whole story of the people’s various treks back to build the temple and then the wall around the city. I love reading of their faith, their hope and trust in God rather than men, their willingness to seek help from men as a sign of their faith in God (sounds contradictory but it’s just how God rolls), of their rejoicing in the reading of the Law, of their agony at the years they lost in not following God fully, of their personal sacrifice to live the surrendered life.

In light of this passage today, I want to give thanks to God because of His faithfulness to His children. I confess there are times I don’t see it. Sometimes I wallow in the pain and suffering or trials I’m walking through. Sometimes I’m too self-focused to see beyond my own small little world to the BIG plan of God. When I can break out of my own limited view, I see His absolute faithfulness and His consistent care for my life. HE never changes, HE never fails, HE fulfills His promises. I am the one who fails and loses sight of Him.

Father, today, as You continue in Your faithfulness give me eyes to see Your work in every detail of my life. Give me grace to surrender in faith and joy, always looking ahead in hope.

  1. I am glad you wrote this today. I needed to hear it and I thank you for sharing it. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in what is going on in our own lives, that we miss the blessings that God gives us in little things, and through others. God bless you today! Have a great day!
