I’ve been meditating on the Attributes of God recently. The more I think of who He is and the character He displays to us, the more I realize how vast God is. And how finite and limited I am. I will spend time in the next few weeks looking at just a few of His wonderful attributes in the hopes that we can all grow into a deeper and richer understanding of this AMAZING and WONDERFUL God we serve!
God is All Powerful
An old time word for this is: omnipotent . God is the definition of powerful. He is mighty to deliver, to judge, to reprove, to give life, to control the earth and the heavens, to change hearts, to bring redemption. There is nothing bigger than the power of Jehovah, the God of the Universe.
His voice is powerful, creating life from nothing and giving life to those who receive it.
Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. Gen 1:3
The voice of the LORD is powerful, the voice of the LORD is majestic. Ps 29:4
For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword,
and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Heb 4:12
His hand is powerful, changing the course of lives.
And Jesus said, “I am; and you shall see THE SON OF MAN SITTING AT THE RIGHT HAND OF POWER, and COMING WITH THE CLOUDS OF HEAVEN.” Mark 14:62
“Your right hand, O LORD, is majestic in power, Your right hand, O LORD, shatters the enemy. Ex 15;6
‘O Lord GOD, You have begun to show Your servant Your greatness and Your strong hand; for what god is there in heaven or on earth who can do such works and mighty acts as Yours?’ Deut 3:24
His character is powerful, declaring His glory and justice to those who love Him.
The Mighty One, God, the LORD, the Mighty One, God, the LORD! Josh 22:22
Behold, God is mighty but does not despise any; He is mighty in strength of understanding Job 36:5
Who is the King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, The LORD mighty in battle. Ps 24:8
His creativity is powerful, it’s an expression of His love and mind in awesome splendor.
More than the sounds of many waters, Than the mighty breakers of the sea, The LORD on high is mighty. Ps 93:4
Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; and in Your book were all written the days that were ordained for me,
when as yet there was not one of them. Ps 139:16
His deliverance is powerful, rescuing those who call upon His Name!
Yet God is my king from of old,
Who works deeds of deliverance in the midst of the earth. Ps 74:12
He said, “The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer… 2 Sam 22:2
The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,
My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge;
My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. Ps 18:2
There is NO ONE like our God: all powerful, mighty, majestic. And in all of this, He reaches down and draws us close to Himself. Praise You Lord, for Your excellence and for touching us with Your love!
