Thankful Thursday

As some of you know, last October I experienced some physical trials that landed me twice in the ER, both times being admitted for a day or two. I underwent numerous tests that actually proved to be normal. My doctor felt it was one diagnosis, the neurologist had a different opinion – but (as if often the case), the neurologist won and began treatment. I was given a drug that helped for several weeks, but the side effects resulted in a VERY muddled mind.

When it was obvious it was no longer working, he added another medication. Now THAT one caused double vision and dizziness. I would walk around with one eye shut (sometimes with a scarf tied around my eye)…my children started to call me Pirate Mom! :D

My neurologist, however, didn’t think I was having a reaction to the medication but that my situation was worsening so I was removed from the first drug and the second one was increased. Needless to say, the week between Christmas and New Years was quite challenging with double vision, severe dizziness and company! Not much got done around the house, that’s for sure!

Finally, he decided that perhaps it WAS side effects afterall and he took me off all medication for a week and was going to try “the final medical option”. This medication is used as a last resort because the side effects are really quite dreadful. The major ones include: anger, confusion, loss of coordination, suicidal thoughts and suicide. Let’s just say I wasn’t keen on going that way!

Well, eventually I turned to my chiropractor. Over the course of the next several weeks, my condition drastically improved, and in the past 10 days, I’ve been symptom free! I continue to go for treatments but will wean back to an eventual monthly maintenance – possibly for life.

So, my Thankful Thursday post is for

Dr. Eric Peterson has been a wonder and I’m very grateful for the way he always listens to his patients and for his skill and expertise. Thanks, Dr. Peterson! May the Lord shower blessings on you and your practice.

  • Praise God, Kate! Remember when I was in Kentucky and had that awful bout with Trigeminal Neuralgia? I hated all of those medications that affect the central nervous system!! I feel sad that you went through all of that, but really glad that you have found help through your chiropractor!

You know, sweetheart, I thought of you often and your struggles with Trigeminal Neuralgia…it pushed me to pray for you MUCH more fervently! And in all this trial I have seen God’s grace and blessing to me over and over. It may not always have been FUN, but it was a blessed journey and THAT I can rejoice in!!

  • Our son is a chiropractor and has helped many when their MD was drugging them. I am happy that you are doing better, and bless Dr Peterson.

Yes, I have been very blessed by Dr. Peterson! Today he said, “I’m amazed at how the Lord created the body and the power there is for it to heal itself, all by His design.” I’m delighted that your son has been able to help so many people. Thank you so much for stopping by my blog! I’m going to check yours out, for sure!

  • Praying that God continues to watch over you.
