Well, these past 2 weeks have been hot. Hot and dry. Yes, we’ve had a day or two with some thunderstorms and with a dip in the temperatures, but for this girl who likes her temps closer to 50-60, 100 degree days with heat indexes into the 120s is … let’s say UNCOMFORTABLE!!
When I lived in Albuquerque back in the early 1980s, we had swamp coolers on our house instead of air conditioners (or refrigerated air, as they called it). Now THOSE were fun. And way cheaper to run than what WE call air conditioners. It uses evaporation to cool the air down rather than blowing in cold air. I don’t know all the ins and outs about it, just that
there was water..
there was a fan and…
VOILA: cool air!
Of course, when you have 12% humidity, that was great.
Today I’m, once again (I know I blogged this last year at this time), SO VERY THANKFUL for the invention of air conditioning, no matter which type for which part of the country!!!
Our poor little window units have been running their hearts out for us this week.
It reminds me of this verse:
She gets up while it is still dark; she provides food for her family and portions for her servant girls. Prov 31:15
It is times like this that I’m glad my “servant girls” are working hard for me – and I do give them their “portions” while it is dark by giving them relief and turning them down at night to just keep the humidity down but not pushing them to cool (except in my bedroom, of course).
I’m looking forward to some relief come the week-end and the joy of being able to turn our A/C off…but in the meantime, I’m GRATEFUL, GRATEFUL, GRATEFUL for cooling air!
