It’s another week for a missions trip for our children, but this week is called Go LOCO – for Go Local. This week our church youth minister WITHIN our own community.
…but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.” Acts 1:8
Our youth pastor works to train into our teens the understanding that our mission field is EVERYWHERE. Sometimes God sends us to the “remotest part of the earth”. Sometimes He just keeps us in our Jerusalem.
So, this week, all the teens help lead the VBS program at our church. Then in the afternoons, they go out into the community to do service projects.
- some help clean the homes/yards of widows in the church
- some help clean up the local public high schools
- some help disabled workers at a local facility with whatever needs doing
Then each evening, there is worship and teaching and a challenge for their own walks with God. It has become so successful that other local churches jump in and join us. It is also a wonderful opportunity for those teens who are unable to actually travel away from home for 8 days (and much less expensive with our church helping to provide lunches).
I’m very glad 3 of my children are able to be a part of it.

Hi Kate! Here to link up two of my spiritual, inspirational posts – thank you for hosting! I hope these will also help teach what is good. It’s good to hear that your children are being trained to be missional even at a young age.
Thanks so much, Rina. Your posts are always such an encouragement!
Yes, the mission field is everywhere. such an important thing to teach our kids.
Thanks for the link up opporutnity!
Emily, I’m so grateful for our youth pastor. My gifts and calling are definitely more geared to building the church and I’m very weak in areas of reaching out to the lost. These missions times give my children more opportunities than I can. Thanks for coming by this week!
Teaching our children to serve others is so important. What a great project that your children are a part of.
Blessings to you!
Hi Keri! You are so right and I am blessed we are in a church that has such a strong focus on outreach, both physical and spiritual!
